The project focuses on supporting the civil society in Tunisia, which is undergoing important political and socio-economic transformation. The emerging civil society in Tunisia has an important role to play in sustaining the country’s political transition, however, as it is the case in many countries in transition from an oppressive political regime, the civil society is in its early stages of organizational, ideological and content related development. Furthermore, there is no culture of a dialogue with the government or among sectors established, and the citizens ‘participation at the discussions on important decisions is absent. Therefore, there is a lot of need in the areas of capacity building in advocacy, promotion of broad public discussion, and participation of the civil society in the decision making processes. The core of the project lies in process of building of a vibrant civil society, establishment of a functioning mechanisms of consultation and cooperation between the state and the non-state actors and transfer of the experience and best practices from the process of transition to democracy in Slovakia. The project supports the development of advocacy related experience the selected community based organizations, consolidation of their regional networks, strengthening of their activation and mobilization capacities. Furthermore, the project facilitates the dialogue between Tunisian CBOs and with the local and national decision makers in order to link needs of the civil society with decision making process in line with the principles of transparency and inclusiveness.
