The main objective of the CLIMATHON ALBANIA project is to improve the quality of life and health of the people of Albania by introducing innovations to improve sustainability and environmental protection. The project is focused on the transfer of practical experience from the successful implementation of innovation events CLIMATHON BRATISLAVA. The event involves startups, technology companies, student teams, and experienced mentors whose goal is to create prototypes of innovative solutions in 48 hours that respond to the challenges the cities are facing. CLIMATHON ALBANIA will be attended by more than 170 participants who will develop at least 15 innovative solutions. The project has two specific objectives; (1) to raise awareness of green innovation and capacity building in cities to implement green and innovative solutions, and (2) to implement innovative solutions that will contribute to Albania's sustainability. Climathon Albania builds on previous projects supporting startups and innovative technology companies in Albania (Uplift Albania and Uplift Western Balkans). It extends the target group to government officials who need to learn to work with engaged local innovators. Emphasis is placed on raising awareness about innovation that can mitigate the effects of climate change and focusing on the practical implementation of innovation in the context of Albanian cities. The project falls into category A in terms of environment and climate change. It aims to improve Albania's quality of life and health by introducing innovations to improve sustainability and environmental protection. The project also addresses the issue of gender inequality (category B), which is a long-standing problem for technology teams worldwide, and aims to increase the representation of women among members of research teams.
