The applicant has already realized 4 projects focused on the area of global education in partnership with Technical University in Zvolen: • GE at the Faculty of ecology a environmental science (09/2013 – 03/2015) • GE in context (09/2014 – 12/2015) • GE for universities of the 21st century (09/2015 – 12/2016) • Academics- actively and practically (11/2016- 6/2018 The continuity and systematic approach with a diverse group of university professors showed to be an effective way of integrating global issues into the education process at universities. Thanks to the approach and the previous projects the applican succesfully introduced global education at 6 slovak universities (Univerzita Komenského- Bratislava, Trnava, Poľnohospodárska Univerzita- Nitra, Technická Univerzita- Zvolen, Univerzita Mateja Bela- Banská Bystrica, Prešovská univerzita- Prešov). As the project works with an extremely diverse group of professors, whose expertise ranges from economy to environmental education, from foreign languages to social work, tourism and political studies, the main focus of the grant proposal is to train the university staff in various innovative, activating methods of work with students within the broad spectrum of global education topics. These teachers become experts, they create their own methodologies that implement global education into their own field of expertise. The topics of global education will be consquently presented at a conference and will be shared online even with universities and departments, that are not directly part of the project. • General goal of the project The general goal of the project is to support a continual incorporation of principles and topics of global education into the education process of various university courses at 5 participating universites. The tools of education should bring new innovatve practices that will activate the students and deal with the pressing issues of current society. This goal will be pursued on several concurrent levels, which will be described in more detail within the specific goals. • Specific goals of the project The specific goals of the project include: 1. Innovation of curricula and creating a network of expert university teachers who apply the topics and methods of global education in their teaching within their specializations. Training of university staff during four 3-day workshops at the Education centre in Zaježová in the following topics: Techniques of global education curriculum creation and their subsequent evaluation Principles of nonviolent communication in global education Storytelling that leads to inclusion Key competencies of power The goal is to include topics of global education into the teaching process at 5 universities, using innovative approaches. The project strives to enhance the networking of participating teachers and an exchange of experience and good practice among them with the help of webinars. We also want to introduce the topics of global education by means of a university conference, which will focus on complex and broad opening of global issues at universities. 2. Expanding of tools, topics and methods of working with global educaton at universities. The goal is to create a web portal which will accumulate materials on global education that will be accessible for free and could be used at other universities which will lead to a more diverse and innovative approach to teaching global education. Those will be in the form of books in pdf format, e-learning modules, interactive whiteboard software, audiovisual materials, etc. Furthermore, the participating teachers will together work on the creation of model teaching units focusing on various aspects of global education based on their own professional expertise. Thus, the created materials and global education topics will be grasped from different angles of perception and presented with the help of innovative techniques. Furthermore, a new publication will be created- a book of interviews on extremism and deradicalization. This book should be a direct sequel to the book „Voices of the majority world“ which originated thanks to the previous project „Global education for universities of the 21. century“. • Outcomes and actvities of the project Throughout the 20 month long duration of the project the following activities will be carried out: • Web portal containing all GE materials created during the previous and current SAMRS projects • 4 training workshops for participationg university teachers, • Creating of 10 teaching materials, which will be available online • Innovation of curriula in 5 university courses • 10 webinars lead by experienced university teachers • A university conference presenting the issues of global education and the possibilities of their incorporation into the education process at universities. • Preparation and printing of a book on extremism and deradicalization with a print count of 500
