Description
The aim of the project is providing a safe and quality drinking water for the citizens of canton of Sarajevo. The project will be implemented in two equally important activities. The first will be the harmonization and implementation of the analytical methods used for the assessment of the organic pollutants of drinking water quality according to the Drinking Water Framework Directive (98/83/EC), considering the planned revision in 2018 in the Governmental laboratory responsible for reporting the Quality of Drinking Water. Within this activity, the staff of the Public Health Institute will be trained to meet current requirements for analytical methods used to assess the quality of drinking water. Despite of many water sources in Sarajevo Canton, only few of them are currently available for the production and distribution of drinking water. Unfortunately, none of these sources are monitored and regularly analyzed in order to identify and determine organic pollutants. Therefore, the second part of the project will focus on identifying of organic compounds present in existing and potential drinking water sources in canton of Sarajevo, making the first major step towards locating new sources of drinking water for residents of the Sarajevo canton.
