Songa Mbele na Masomo Children Centre is a project run by the congregation Sisters of Mercy that focuses on social inclusion and education of children with special needs coming from Mukuru slums in Nairobi. The Centre has 79 children with different conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus, speech difficulties, ichthyosis, Down syndrome, multiple disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The Centre supports these children with day care services, therapy sessions, basic education and hygiene. Songa Mbele´s team consists of staff trained in different special professions, caregivers and domestic as well as foreign volunteers. The foreseen tasks of a volunteer shall be the following: • Ensure the personal hygiene of the children and keep their classroom, toilets, toys and beddings and other learning materials clean. • Assist the teacher and therapists in the learning and therapy programs. • Organize and manage a clean, safe and secure education environment for children. • Assist in filling and keeping records of children. • Exercise confidentiality in all matters related to the clients, parents and guardians. • Comply with all the child protection and safeguarding policies. The proposed project is located in a programme country of Slovak ODA and its objective is to contribute to reaching Sustainable Development Goals, namely No. 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), 4 (Quality Education) and 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Centre focuses its services on marginalized children, moreover, who come from socially and economically disadvantaged environment.
