Description

USHIRIKIANO CENTER St. Mary's Catholic Dispensary in MSABAHA provides educational, social and nutritional support for people in need and comprehensive care for people infected with the HIV virus. The volunteer's stay will be focused on: 1. Educational project - Formal education, Helping children from poor families to get basic education. Informal education - Lessons for mothers focused on observing hygiene habits, order in the home, common diseases of the 3rd world, motivation of children to learn, consequences of not paying school fees and others. Children's lessons and activities, focused on similar topics as mother's lessons, computer lessons for high school students, education aimed at preventing the spread of infectious diseases with an emphasis on the current pandemic caused by the Covid 19 virus. 2. Social project - help to poor families primarily in the form of food , donating clothes, shoes, household items, bed mattresses, linen, etc. 3. Malnutrition project - food support for malnourished children according to the standards of WHO, UNICEF and the Kenyan government, measurement of MUAC Mother without milk, detection of anemic signs 4. HIV mobile unit - the project was created to eliminate patient transport costs. The goal is to bring professional HIV help closer to their homes. Cooperation with Malindi District Hospital, distribution of ARV drugs for HIV+ patients, taking blood samples from patients for CD4 tests, ensuring results, leading an HIV support group - combating stigma in the community, education about the HIV virus, treatment and prevention, social and mental care for patients . HIV virus testing. The volunteer's stay will be part of the preparation for work in the field of development cooperation Detailed description of the volunteer's activities: Children's educational and leisure activities, Improving the promotion of Slovak development aid, Identification of children suitable for secondary education, Participation in the education of local social workers - knowledge transfer, Participation in the logistical support of the project , Participation in the activities of anti-malnutrition centers, Participation in the activities of the HIV center, Participation in the implementation of long-distance adoptions, Education of potential Slovak experts for development aid, Post-return activities will also be an important part of the project, where the volunteer will present to the Slovak public his experiences from his stay in Malindi and volunteering the program. The volunteer's stay will be part of the preparation for work in the field of development cooperation. The project provides an ideal environment for volunteering and creates sufficient conditions for it. Volunteer activities will be carried out under the supervision of an experienced employee of the University of St. Elizabeth. The project provides space for several volunteers to work. The new volunteer will be able to follow up on the activities carried out by previous volunteers. The volunteer will participate in regular staff meetings of the project workers, where they will participate in the analysis of individual activities and propose possible improvements. The volunteer will carry out his activities in coordination with a social worker from Slovakia who works in Malindi. An important aspect is also that the volunteer will work in a multi-cultural space.
