Description

The center in Buikwe is co-operated by the submitter in cooperation with a local partner. The center is focused on the treatment of HIV, malnutrition and education of the population. The center is part of a network of anti-malnutrition and HIV clinics in Uganda. The Buikwe area is characterized by a higher incidence of malnutrition and a high prevalence of HIV. The sponsor financially supports the center and sends its experts to manage the anti-malnutrition and HIV center. The aim of the center is to: Search for malnourished children from the poorest families. Build local capacities in the social and public health field Provide an educational and rehabilitation anti-malnutrition program for malnourished children and their mothers. Provide counseling and therapeutic activities for HIV positive patients. To provide educational activities in the prevention of the spread of HIV and the principles of correctness for the local community The project provides an ideal environment for volunteer activity and creates sufficient conditions for it. Volunteer activities will be carried out under the supervision of an experienced employee of the University of St. Elizabeth. The new volunteer will follow up on the activities carried out by the previous volunteers. The presented project is aimed at supporting the building of local capacities, there are not enough experts and workers in the social field in the area, and the volunteer's activities in cooperation with the expert will lead to the education of local experts. The volunteer will work in an international team and will participate in the dissemination of knowledge and experience. The proposed project also aims to promote dialogue between cultures, strengthen solidarity and understanding between peoples and long-term partnerships between organizations and communities in Uganda. The volunteer's stay will be part of the preparation for work in the field of development cooperation. Description of activities: Adaptation to the environment, work more independently and will also participate in individual logistical activities of the project. Volunteers, depending on their assignment, participate either in the day-to-day running of the clinic and the center and in the implementation of the social program, where they participate in the tasks of supervising patients and clients who come for treatment, do informal education (basic habits, hygiene, eating, etc.), organize games for children patients/clients in the program, participate in project management, planning, implementation of partial tasks set for the period of their stay. Another group of volunteers prepares the so-called health talks, discussions, sports events and creative meetings (every day of the week with a focus on a different group of recipients: children, adolescents, pregnant women, fathers, the elderly and people with chronic diseases, self-help groups of HIV-infected patients). Volunteers participate in the creation of PR materials, artwork created by program clients for the local community and other peer groups. The volunteer will participate in education aimed at preventing the spread of infectious diseases with an emphasis on the current pandemic caused by the Covid 19 virus. They participate in trips to hard-to-reach areas as well as to schools where orphans and children sponsored from the long-distance adoption program are housed. Volunteers also participate in the collection and sorting of research data and the educational program for program clients and local employees, will participate in education and consultations for local social workers and logisticians. Activities will strengthen solidarity and provide innovative answers to emerging social problems. The volunteer will participate in regular staff meetings. The volunteer will carry out his activities in coordination with a social worker from Slovakia who works in Uganda.
