Description

The aim of the presented project is to build sufficient capacities in NEA as well as to introduce new modern analytical methods on the GC-MS/MS system in order to fulfill the requirements of European water directives (such as the Water Framework Directive 2013/39/EU and the Seawater Framework Directive 2008/56 /ES). The result of the project will be a competitive laboratory capable of monitoring the Black Sea by regularly measuring specific compounds detected in the EU/UNDP project (output - list of specific pollutants for the Black Sea; EU/UNDP Project: Improving Environmental Monitoring in the Black Sea - Selected Measures (EMBLAS-Plus ), NPI/2018/389-859)). Another benefit of the presented project will be the procurement of a sampler of large volumes of water (LV), which will significantly reduce the limits of detection and quantification of selected compounds in combination with the GC-MS/MS system. As part of the presented project, NEA personal will be trained to be able to respond for considered amendments to environmental legislation and thereby contribute to its effective protection, as well as independently fulfill EU requirements when creating the so-called lists of specific pollutant compounds for Georgia. The established LV-GC-MS/MS method will also be used in the analysis of groundwater and drinking water as well as lakes samples, and this will ensure a true picture of water quality from the point of view of organic pollution and, consequently, more effective intervention in the event of possible accidents.
