Description

The main objective of the project is to contribute to addressing the poverty of Ethiopian farmers through the introduction of new crops with high added and export value. The project will build a financially sustainable fair-trade value chain that will provide farmers with stable and fair conditions of cooperation and valuation, as well as the placement of their production on the market. Along with the planned realization of the construction of a factory to process local production of macadamia, the project represents a significant contribution to the sustainable expansion of economic activities for Ethiopian farmers. The specific objectives of the project include the establishment of a nursery garden, which will ensure local production of high-quality macadamia seedlings for the purpose of their continuous distribution to Ethiopian farmers. The project is based on following activities: - Import and planting of 100,000 macadamia integrifolia seedlings from the Kenya partner's nursery in a secured farm; - Distribution of 100,000 seedlings to local farmers; - Training of farmers by agronomists from TSA; - Establishment of a seedling nursery for local seedlings production and the possibility of their continuous and sustainable distribution in Ethiopia for the needs of local farmers as well as in the interest of expanding the farm´s capacity. The measurable indicators of the project will be the number of imported and distributed macadamia integrifolia seedlings, the number of farmers involved in the cultivation of new crop, trainings and transfer of experience in the sector as well as increased employment in the area.
